News4u – News Desk : (PTI) Suspecting that former Goa minister Fransisco Pacheco, named accused in the mysterious death of his woman friend, might be feigning illness, police today said certificates given by his doctors should be referred to a medical board.
Public Prosecutor Sarojini Sardinha, arguing for Goa Police’s crime branch, said during the hearing of the bail petition filed by Pacheco that there was no mention of sickness by the former tourism minister before he surrendered to the court.
“Only when he was remanded in judicial custody, he complained of sickness and got admitted in ICU,” she said.
Pointed out errors in the medical report submitted by the state-run Hospicio hospital, Sardinha said the accused had refused to allow examination of his blood despite complaining of jaundice, hypertension and urinary tract infection.

News4u – News Desk : India has said that it will make attempts to insulate its education policies from political interference as has done by Indonesia.
Minister of State for Human Resources Development Daggubati Purandeswari said this in an interview to aNigerian newspaper on the sidelines of a meeting of education ministers from countries with highest number of world’s illiterate people held in Abuja, Nigeria
According to Purandeswari, one of the benefits of the conference is to learn about the best practices in other countries.
India was selected as the next host of the summit in 2012.
She explained that the minister from Indonesia said they have fashioned their literacy programme in such a way that it is insulated from political interference and change in the country.
“We will now look at how Indonesia was able to achieve this and learn from it,” she said.
She advocated that the countries like India, China, Egypt,Indonesia, Nigeria, Mexico, Bangladesh, Brazil and Pakistanought to accept the challenge bearing in mind that they are home to very large population.
“If we’re able to address these challenges and make a change in our own countries, we will make a change globally because that is the change that will affect a large number of people. Rather than feel bad, I think we should feel rather challenged about the issues that we have,” Purandeswari said.
She said India’s achievement since the last E-9 meeting inIndonesia include the revamping of the entire literacy vision by reaching out to the most hard-to-reach segments of the society.
The minister called this decentralisation which involves making some elected village representatives part of the programme.
The E-9 countries represent 54 per cent of the world’s population and 67 per cent of its non-literates.
At the end of the session, the participating ministers had released an Abuja Framework for Action and Cooperation and re-affirmed the value of mutual cooperation among E-9 countries and with other countries within the South-South and South-South-North (triangular) framework.
The meeting also adopted a broad concept of literacy for development whose sustained use is significant to all aspects of human and socio-economic progress and which is the foundation of lifetime learning.

News4u – News Desk : Days after Pakistan said it would raise the alleged human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir in upcoming Indo-Pak talks, India on Tuesday made it clear that law and order cannot be questioned in the name of rights and that terrorism will be the focus of the parleys.
“Throughout the country human rights are protected, human rights are sacred to India and that has been ensured by the judiciary,” External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told reporters accompanying him on way home from a tour of Mauritius, Mozambique and Seychelles.
“If there are instances of human rights violations, there are agencies within our own country which have been created to ensure human rights protection. So, it can be looked into, but law and order cannot be questioned in the name of human rights,” he said.
Krishna’s remarks follow his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s statement that he would raise the issue of alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir during their talks on 15th July.
During his meeting with Qureshi, Krishna is expected to explore ways and means to reduce the trust deficit between the two countries that has grown since the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
“We would like to talk to Pakistan on a number of concerns that we have. Of course, the primary concern would continue to be terror which emanates from Pakistan,” he said.
The minister said that he would continue to talk about terror and seek an update on the trial of those accused of carrying out the deadly attacks in Mumbai in 2008.
“So, I will continue to talk about terror, to talk about Mumbai, find out at what stage is the trial of the accused in the Mumbai attacks,” he said.
Observing that the two countries have a “better understanding” of each other’s perceptions now, Krishna said the April meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani in Thimphu had created an atmosphere wherein India can discuss any issue with Pakistan without any inhibitions.
He said the visit of Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao to Pakistan and the subsequent discussions Home Minister P Chidambaram had with his counterpart Rehman Malik helped the two countries have a “better understanding” of each other’s perceptions.
“After the Home Minister’s visit and that of the Foreign Secretary, we have a better understanding of each other’s perceptions,” he said.
Krishna said that Prime Minister Singh has “very rightly” put it that the trust deficit, that seems to have mounted over a period of time, needs to be bridged.

News4u – News Desk : Forced to plee his country 51 years ago, His Holiness the Dalai Lama turned 75 on Tuesday, a milestone marked by celebrations in his hometown-in-exile.
The Tibetan spiritual leader will address a crowd of 5,000 followers at his temple in McLeod Ganj, a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, where he has lived since fleeing Tibet in 1959 after a failed uprising against Chinese rule.
In apparently fine health, the Buddhist spiritual leader will break with recent birthday tradition and greet well-wishers in person.
“This time, as it’s his 75th birthday, he also wanted to join the function,” said Tashi Norbu, an official in the Tibetan government-in-exile based in nearby Dharamshala.
While decades of on-off negotiations with Beijing have seen no tangible progress, the Nobel peace laureate has been extremely successful in keeping the Tibet issue alive with a campaign that continues to attract global sympathy.
