One more death due to swine flu, 150 fresh cases
News4u-News Desk-One more person succumbed to swine flu in the country on Wedneesday, taking the toll to 399 even as 150 fresh cases of the disease were reported.
Delhi reported the maximum 42 fresh swine flu cases, follwed by Karnataka (22), Kerala (21), Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra (19 each) and Haryana (16).
The lone death today was reported from Maharashtra which has seen the maximum number of people succumbing to the disease.
The total number of deaths due to swine flu in the country rose to 399 and the number of infected people touched 12,334.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan got its first swine flu testing lab at the SMS Medical College.
“The lab set up at a cost of Rs 84 lakh is the first of its kind in north India, which has been set up in the medical college with highest level of security and safety standards,” Dr Ashok Panagaria, Principal of SMS Medical College, said.
“The lab will deliver test reports within 24 hours. Rs 3,000 will be charged for one test in normal case, while widows, orphans, handicapped, persons above 70 years and BPL patients will be exempted from charges,” he said.
48 swine flu cases in Delhi on Wednesday
Swine flu cases continued to surface in the capital as swab samples of 48 people tested positive on Wednesday, taking the total number of those infected by the viral disease to 3,279.
“Forty eight positive cases of H1N1 influenza have been reported today. Till date, 3,279 people including 1,716 children have been reported positive for H1N1 virus in the capital. More than 90 percent of these patients have been successfully treated and discharged,” Delhi Health minister, Kiran Walia said.
She also said of the 48 cases identified during the day, 19 are children.
The minister informed that Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Action Balaji Private Hospital have been authorised by Delhi Government to treat swine flu patients in the capital.
Twenty-bed isolation wards will be set up by these hospitals to treat the patients.
They may also issue prescription for purchase of Tamiflu if required, she said.
Earlier, the government has already authorised two private hospitals — Apollo Hospital and Moolchand Hospital — to treat the disease.
A total of four private hospitals have been authorised so far for treating the swine flu patients.
