I would sketch Thackeray as Bhishma on bed of arrows: Raj
News4u-News Desk- Mumbai: Three years ago, when Raj Thackeray quit Shiv Sena and formed MNS, he had said that if he were to sketch his uncle and Sena chief Bal Thackeray, he would portray him like Bhishma Pitamaha on the bed of arrows.
Now, after playing spoiler for the Sena’s ambitions to regain power in Maharashtra, the MNS chief whose party won 13 seats in the Assembly elections, says that is how he would sketch him today as well.
“That is how I would draw him today,” Raj was quoted in an interview published in a local newspaper.
Raj, who is also a cartoonist, conceded that the idea of that image (Thackeray as Bhishma Pitamaha) hurts him, but said “what can I do?”
Asked if he sought Thackeray’s blessings after the elections, Raj said “I can’t, even if I want to. I went to see him when he was in hospital. By gods grace, he seems much better now.”
Raj has managed to keep estranged cousin Uddhav, Sena executive president, out of power for next five years as the party won only 44 of the 174 seats in contested.
“Remember how then Sena MLA Chhagan Bhujbal used to arouse passions in 1985? My MLAs will be as aggressive,” Raj said.
Asked about his statement made earlier in connection with bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Raj said “I am an ardent Amitabh Bachchan fan. I have purchased tickets in black to watch his films. I never thought of him as a UP wallah”.
