2012 ( Movie-Review)

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Roland Emmerich is the true Disaster Movie Maven. Remember the thrills he gave us with Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow? Well, he is back doing what he is best at with this apocalyptic sci-fi thriller stemming from the Mayan calendar’s prediction that the world will come to an end on December 21st, 2012. The story follows an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe to make contact with his double in order to prevent the catastrophic prophecies of the ancient Mayan calendar.

A global cataclysm thrusts the world into chaos and it’s up to writer Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) to use his knowledge of the ancient prophecies to save the human race. What begins as his mission to protect his estranged wife and two kids, turns into a world saving Superman mission. We’ve seen it often enough – one man, with a couple of sidekicks battling a disastrous natural calamity, just to save his family. 2012, follows the same line of thought with the predictive Mayan Calendar and Roland Emmerich’s disaster portrayal skills to back it up. 2012, we promise is one of the largest larger than life films in recent times.

Agreed, the theme is stale – but the way Roland brings the world to an end – the way he rips the United States of America apart is amazing! And just so we don’t miss out on the action, the lead family travels from place to place, always being present at the most catastrophic moments in each of those places! Before you begin to wonder, if only the American world is sinking under the towering waves, Roland shows you the destruction of Rio Di Janeiro, Buenos Aires and St Peter's Basilica – all in the same awe-inspiring way. Roland must truly hate the world to want to shred it to bits, thus! There isn’t much of a storyline because we all know what to expect and that’s precisely what happens. But the Disaster Master has reclaimed his title!
