Suicide attack kills three at Pak’s Peshawar press club
News4u-News Desk-A suicide bomber attacked a Press Club in Pakistan’s northwest city of Peshawar on Tuesday killing at least three persons and injuring several others, including journalists.
The bomber detonated his explosives when a policeman deployed at the gate of the Press Club tried to prevent him from entering the premises. The policeman was among the three persons who died in the blast, local media reported.
“It was a suicide attack. The bomber wanted to enter the building. The police official at the gate stopped him and he blew himself up,” senior police official Karim Khan said.
The blast damaged the Press Club and blew out its windows. A sizeable number of people were present in the Club at the time of the attack.
“The guard room outside the gate was badly damaged. Three motorcycles parked inside the compound and one bus on the other side of the road were damaged. Almost all windows of the building were shattered,” said Khan.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
A provincial minister was scheduled to address a news conference in the Club later in the afternoon.
Several cars parked outside the Club were also damaged.
Security forces cordoned off the area and gathered the body parts of the bomber.
Ambulances rushed the injured to hospitals, where an emergency was declared.
