Lopez finds shooting steamy scenes weird

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Actress Jennifer Lopez had a tough time shooting steamy scenes with co-star Alex O’Loughlin in the upcoming rom-com ‘Backup Plan’ because she finds them “weird”.

Lopez plays a woman, who tired of waiting for the man of her dreams, conceives through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day in the movie, which is slated to hit Indian theatres on May 14.

“We know we have to do it. We signed on for it. Even when it’s not PG-13 and you sign on for it, you know that it’s something you’re going to have to do. But it’s one of the things it’s like, ‘Eh, the love scene’s coming up.’

“Still, even as an actor when you have a kissing scene it’s still weird. Even when you like the person. We totally know that it’s part of our job but it’s weird,” said the 40-year-old star.

Lopez, who is married to singer Marc Anthony and has twins with him, has previously starred in romantic movies like ‘The Wedding Planner’ and ‘Maid in Manhattan’.

No rivalry with Katie Holmes over ‘Jacqueline’: Weisz

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Even as both of them are portraying Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis in two different projects, American actress Rachel Weisz does not think a rivalry will develop between her and Katie Holmes.

“She’s a fantastic actress, she will be fabulous. It’s not a competition. I’m surprised more people haven’t played her so far. It seems strange there hasn’t been many versions. But it’s great she has the opportunity to play her as well,” Weisz said.

The 40-year-old Oscar-winning actress will star in the big-screen drama, to be directed by husband Darren Aronofsky, which chronicles the days immediately following President John F Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, People reported online.

Holmes, on the other hand will star in the History Channel’s eight-hour miniseries, ‘The Kennedys’, co-starring Greg Kinnear and due to premiere next year.

“It’s extremely exciting and scary at the same time, she’s American royalty. So there’s some fear,” Weisz said on playing the role and added that “for sure” she will watch Holmes on the small screen.

Sonia Gandhi a great inspiration: Katrina Kaif

News4u -Entertainment Desk-Bangalore, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has said she is personally “inspired” by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and would “jump at an opportunity” if offered to play her in a film.

It is a great inspiration,” said the actress, who was in the city to promote her latest film ‘Rajneeti’, a political drama slated for a June 4 release.

Demi Moore campaigns against sex trafficking

News4u Entertainment Desk-Hollywood actress Demi Moore is spearheading a campaign against child sex trafficking and met with lawmakers at the White House to discuss the issue.

The ‘Ghost’ star launched ‘Demi and Ashton (DNA) Foundation’ with her husband Ashton Kutcher to raise awareness of the harrowing subject and to help survivors of abuse, People magazine reported.

The 47-year-old actress speaking at a briefing on Domestic Sex Trafficking of Children, called for harsh punishments for offenders, as well as more leniency and support for youngsters coerced into prostitution.

“I think many Americans are more willing to accept that girls are being trafficked in Cambodia and can’t imagine it’s happening right here… It’s more profitable and less risky to sell a girl than drugs. Demand for prostitution fuels sex trafficking. And I think clearly our system isn’t working,” Moore said.

After her talk at Capitol Hill, she visited the White House along with three female sex abuse victims, to discuss human trafficking with senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

“Appreciated the opportunity to participate today in a Congressional briefing to end Child Sex Slavery in America!,” Moore wrote on Twitter after her visit.

I am friends with Suzzane, says Barbara Mori

News4u-Entertainment Desk- Mexican actress Barbara Mori, who debuts in Bollywood with Hrithik Roshan in ‘Kites’ says that rumours about their alleged love affair did not affect her close friendship with the actor’s wife Suzzane.

“Suzzane is a beautiful human being…same as all the other Roshans. They treated me well with so much love that the gossips about a romantic linkup did not affect me. Suzzane and I became close friends and stayed in touch even after the film completed,” Barbara said in an interview.

She said she just laughed off the rumours when she heard about it last year.

“I am used to such link ups. Back home in Mexico, every movie that I do, I have something to do with the leading man. In the initial stages of my career, I would get upset and even cry saying that the rumours are not true and I am not that kind of a person,” she said.

The 32-year-old actress said she always wanted to come to India on a vacation and as luck would have it, she got to visit the country for the shooting of ‘Kites’.

“I only knew that Bollywood was a huge filmindustry till my manager told me that an Indian producer was looking for me and asked me to get in touch with them. I flew to Los Angeles to meet Rakesh Roshan and Anurag Basu,” Barbara said.

“We started talking about the film and I fell in love with the story. I was looking for something like that. At that point of time, I was going through many scripts but there was nothing like Kites,” the actress said adding that after becoming part of ‘Kites’, she realised that Bollywood is bigger than Hollywood.

“But, we in Mexico do not watch Bollywood films. But, it will be known after the English version of ‘Kites’ releases there,” she said.

Barbara watched movies of Rakesh Roshan, Anurag Basu and Hrithik to familiarise herself with her new crew. However, she did not like her co-star in ‘Jodha Akbar’ which was the first Hindifilm she saw.

“The three long hours were unbearable. When I saw Hrithik in the film, I said to myself ‘Oh My God, is he my co-star’. I felt like saying no to Rakesh Roshan and Anurag Basu. But, then I saw ‘Lakshya’ and ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ and I realised that he was an amazing actor. He is different in all his movies. He looks really good in ‘Dhoom 2′ but he is looking better in ‘Kites’,” she said.

Barbara said she knew that dancing and singing was the highlight of any Bollywood film.

“I did a little bit of dancing in the film. But, the scenes have been edited out. Perhaps I did not do it well,” she said.

Even though Barbara said that singing and dancing were not her cup of tea, she was fascinated with Bollywood and will come back to India in January next year to shoot for another movie.

“It’s a love story and I am yet to go through the script. Roshans are not producing it. But, I will definitely seek their advice,” she said about the film which will be directed by Anurag Basu.

About her character in ‘Kites’, Barbara said, “Natasha is a Mexican girl who lives with her siblings and a sick mother. Hence she decides to travel to Las Vegas looking for work, money and opportunities to support her family. She meets Tony who is the richest guy in Las Vegas and decides to fall in love with him.

Later, she realises that he is not her true love and it is somewhere else. Natasha has to choose between true love and money. She speaks Spanish but learns English later.” Barbara said she also did some of her own stunts in ‘Kites’.

“Hrithik got injured during one such sequence about breaking a window. He got a deep cut and had to be taken to a hospital. I did not hurt myself so it makes me better than Hrithik in action sequences,” she laughed.

She said she did not like the underwater sequences because she does not like the sea.

The actress said she has just seen Goa during her stay in India so far.

“I want to see the Taj Mahal,” Barbara who is leaving for Mexico on Saturday said adding that she will be back on May 19 ahead of the film’s release on May 21.

The actress also revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29.

“That was three years ago. But, it was not serious and I had to undergo just a surgery. There was no chemotheraphy. Unlike Anurag Basu who was diagnosed with Lukemia,” she said.

Speaking about her experience battling the disease, she said cancer came to her life at a point when she was at the pinnacle of her success.

“I had everything in life…good family, successful career. But I was still complaining. Cancer taught me to realise that one had to enjoy whatever you get in life especially when your son and rest of the family is so good,” she said.

Supreme Court quashes cases against Khusboo

News4u-Entertainment Desk-The Supreme Court on Wednesday quashed 22 criminal cases filed against South Indian actress Khusboo for her remarks in various magazines allegedly endorsing pre-marital sex.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan and Justices Deepak Verma and B. S. Chauhan allowed the appeal filed by the actress against the decision of the Madras High Court which had dismissed her plea to quash the cases.

The cases were registered in various places in Tamil Nadu for her interviews in 2005.

Reacting to the verdict, a relieved Khusbhoo, 39, said, “If you are honest and if you are fighting for justice, then whatever political or money power anybody has, there is a lot to protect the normal citizen and my case has proved it.”

The actress, who fought in the courts for four-and-half-years, said she was grateful to the Supreme Court which took into account the entire case including the complete transcripts of what she had stated.

“I would like to thank the Supreme Court and all the people and friends who have stood by me all these years,” she said.

Khushboo in her interviews had said it was fine for girls to indulge in pre-marital sex after taking precautions to keep unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases at bay.

Later, she had justified her statement by saying no educated man could expect his partner to be a virgin.

Taking exceptions to her remarks, political outfits and a few actors had said that her views went against Tamil culture and values.

Taken aback by the outcry, Kushboo had tendered an open apology to Tamils, especially women, saying she would never dream of sullying the image of the Tamil people.

Following this, cases had been filed against the actress.

‘Rajneeti’ is much more than politics: Katrina

News4u Entertainment desk- Actress Katrina Kaif has said that her upcoming flick ‘Rajneeti’ is much more than politics, and despite it not being a serious film, it is a crucial topic.

“The story in this film is not just what you see in posters or in promos. You have seen a lot of (these), obviously you have seen it as a political film, but there is a very interesting story behind it. There is a personal story as well, there is romance in the film, there is jealousy, there is bitterness, there is betrayal,” said Katrina Kaif.

“It is not a serious film, it is about a serious topic, but it is very entertaining film in the content. Otherwise, you guys all know me well enough to know that I wouldn’t do a film, which is not entertaining. This isentertainment of a different sort,” she added.

Contrary to speculations that her character in the film was inspired by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Kaif said that she had watched the election campaign videos ofGandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for a first hand know-how on right looks and the body language.

“That is one of the persons whom I have seen, I did particularly like her (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of ruling Congress party president Sonia Gandhi) way of talking and the way she talks in public and because we are not basing my character on anybody living or dead,” said Katrina Kaif.

“I think I had freedom and Prakash Jha also gave me that freedom to maybe just see somebody I like and try develop a character to that,” she added.

Kaif launched the music album of the film along with actor Ranbir Kapoor and Director Prakash Jha here on Tuesday.

Talking about the music of the film, actor Ranbir Kapoor mentioned that Jha has roped in some renowned music composers for the film, and added that music would add to the layers of ‘Rajneeti’.

‘Rajneeti’ is a family-political thriller and I think the music just helps to be more engaging to the audience, but don’t expect us to be singing songs or doing anything,” said Ranbir Kapoor.

Director Prakash Jha said the film is the story of power-seekers, people who continuously seek power like power in personal life, power in professional life and in political standing.

Fifty-eight year old Prakash Jha returns to the silver screen this June with ‘Rajneeti’, a big-budget political thriller that has a multitude of stars such as Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor, Ajay Devgan and Nana Patekar.

The flick has been shot in Bhopal is expected to hit the theaters on June 4, 2010.

Salman believed in me: Katrina

News4u Entertainment desk-Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, who is all set to make a splash in her upcoming flim ‘Raajneeti’, says her mentor-turned-boyfriend Salman Khan was always sure of her doing well and making a mark for herself in the tinsel town.

“Apart from guiding me, Salman had confidence in me. He is not the person to say that because he is friendly with you. He will say it genuinely,” Katrina said.

The 25-year-old actress feels that it was her destiny that she came into the Hindi film industry and succeeded. She has many people to thank for her soaring career here. “There are too many people whom I can call my godfather.

I am grateful and indebted to them. Even Akshay Kumar took a risk in working with me initially,” she said.

“He did not know me at all. He was at crossroads of his career. When he did ‘Namastey London’, people thought he had gone insane. Nobody is going to damage or destroy himself to help somebody else. Salman and Akshay believed in me and that is my good fortune and destiny,” she said.

Katrina says the fact that her earlier films did well at the box office was a “miracle”, helping her weave the success story.

“Had those films failed, nobody could have done anything for me. I don’t think I would have got a second chance if the movies bombed,” she said.

The actress is appalled at how the media romantically links everyone with anyone.

“By doing this, media is discounting its own credibility. It is not possible to have so many link ups. This is the film industry and not a dating industry. One cannot be that fickle.

We also have morals. Our professions may be different.. even an infatuation does not change that fast,” she said apparently referring to her rumoured relationship with co-star Ranbir Kapoor.

Also, Katrina does not believe that on screen chemistry between two co-stars makes a film work.

“It is the film that works. I and Salman worked in ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ and ‘Partner’ which were successes, but ‘Yuvraj’ crashed,” she pointed out.

On co-stars, she said, “Akshay and I complement each other well.”

Katrina feels that finding good friends was a very difficult task in the film industry.

“It’s a reality, actresses are forced to accept. You can be friends with a director and he may not take you in his next film. You may find people who you counted on, not standing by you during your low phase. One has to be careful on what basis you are building your friendships,” she said.

On vibes she shares with other top Bollywood actresses, Katrina says, “Actresses are not friends because there is no time. We are too much into each other’s space to be friends, but I am cordial with Preity Zinta, Kareena and Priyanka and we hang out whenever we meet.”

Katrina said she started working at a very young age. “I am aware that I have to figure my path from here as an individual and as a woman, about the decisions I have to take in life.”

To a question on her comments that she would get married in two years, Katrina said, “I don’t know why I said that. Its said that man proposes and god disposes. I may have this lovely plan but who knows two years from now we may be sitting in this same room discussing a new film or my wedding.”

The actress said it was just a thought.. “waking up with a silly dream in my head.”

On her accented Hindi posing a bit of a problem, the actress said, “Every one speaks with an accent. For ‘Raajneeti’, I wanted to erase the accent during dubbing specially for difficult words. Even Arjun Rampal did not know the meaning of the word ‘Aadyashakti’ which I knew.”

Katrina said even though it has not been stated in clear terms, her character in the film which is a rich, spoilt brat, has probably studied abroad.

Lisa Ray – cancer-free and ready to re-embrace India

News4u-Entertainment Desk-Ten months after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Canadian actress Lisa Ray says she is cancer free, has enjoyed being bald, and is ready to embrace her second home, India, with new vigour.

The actress and model, frequently named as one of the most beautiful people in the world by Indian and Canadian media, says she is feeling “reborn” after a stem cell transplant in January to treat multiple myeloma.

“This has hijacked my life for long enough and now I am going to take matters into my own hands,” Ray, 38, told Reuters.

“It’s really been a kind of rebirth,” she said of her radical stem cell transplant treatment. “It’s like being reborn from the inside out. It’s a big cleaning from the middle of your marrow and spreading out.”

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of white blood cells that attacks and destroys bone and which more commonly afflicts people in their mid-60s. There is currently no known cure and treatment is focused on containment.

But Ray, born in Canada to an Indian father and Polish mother, chose to fight back, and chronicle her battle in a painfully honest yet humorous blog that has won her even more admirers.

The glossy-haired star of Bollywood movies “Water” and “Kasoor,” showed off her new short-hair look this week in Los Angeles.

Her most recent movie, “Cooking with Stella,” opened the Indian Film Festival in the U.S. city as a benefit for the Los Angeles-based Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.

“My hair is coming back and it is looking awesome right now. I am just loving it. It is the sleekest and most well-put together I have ever looked,” she laughed.

Ray recalled that she had cut off her long dark locks for her role in 2007 Oscar-nominated movie “Water.” But having her hair fall out while undergoing cancer treatment was a different matter.

“What was traumatic about losing my hair this time was I didn’t have a choice. But I have enjoyed being bald,” she added, relishing the absence of shampoos, conditioners and hair dryers in her life.

RE-CONNECTING WITH INDIA

Ray got her first modelling job after being spotted in India at the age of 16 while on a family vacation. And India was the first place she headed for after her stem cell transplant.

“It was the best thing I could have done,” she said. “I am planning to divide my time between Bombay and Canada now. I felt really re-embraced and re-connected with a world and people in that world that I had missed, and it feels right to start really re-engaging and spending a lot more time there.”

“There has been some tension in my life, living and belonging on two continents. But now I have come to peace with it. I haven’t come to some big transcendental conclusion about this, but on a personal level it feels like I really need to absorb both places.”

Ray said she wanted to resume her acting and modelling career. But what excites her most is the offer of a publishing contract in India. Details are still under wraps.

“Writing is a renewed passion that I have re-discovered. It is a beautiful way of processing what I have been going through,” she said of her blog.

“You can take the pain and understand it through the filter of art..It’s been so valuable and I am definitely going to pursue it. I have a feeling that writing will become increasingly important in my life.”

Ray also plans to continue efforts to raise awareness for multiple myeloma. Some 20 percent of proceeds from ticket sales to the “Cooking with Stella” screening at the Indian film festival in Los Angeles will go towards the Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research which works on designing new drug therapies for the condition.

“Obviously, it is in my benefit. But we also we have to understand that cancer, not just multiple myeloma, is reaching epidemic proportions and we need to take action,” she said.
