US provides USD 5 million food assistance to Nepal

News4u-News Desk-Kathmandu, PTI) United States has provided an assistance of USD 5 million to Nepal to supply 3,500 tons of staple food to country’s poorest.

The food assistance will be used to support the conflict victims and drought-affected people across eight districts of Nepal, according to a US Embassy press release.

“Recent declining agricultural production has depressed many rural economies and increased the spread of hunger throughout Nepal,” said Kevin A Rushing, director of the US Assistance for International Development (USAID), which delivered the food on behalf of the US government.

“Our contribution demonstrates the United States’ long-standing commitment to the welfare of the Nepali people,” he added.

The assistance is a part of its earlier commitment made in 2009 under the World Food Programme (WFP).

Including this assistance, USAID has contributed food worth USD 12.
