The world’s most precise clock ‘created’

News4u-News Desk- Scientists claim to have created the world’s most precise clock based on the oscillation of a trapped aluminium-27 atom.

According to the ‘New Scientist’, the new record- holder for the most precise timekeeper, built at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Colorado, could tick off the 13.7-billion-year age of universe to within 4 seconds.

The optical clock monitors the oscillation of a trapped atom of aluminium-27 and is more than twice as precise as an earlier version, reported in 2008, say its creators.

The second is currently defined by caesium atomic clocks, but optical clocks promise higher precision because their atoms oscillate at the frequencies of light rather than in the microwave band, so they can slice time into smaller intervals. And, such clocks could help spot tiny changes in physical constants over time, the creators say. “It’s extremely impressive,” Patrick Gill of the UK’s National Physical Laboratory, said.

Most Caesarean births in India done due to financial gain: WHO

News4u-News Desk-Nearly one in five deliveries in India is by Caesarean section, a procedure followed ‘unnecessarily’ in most of the cases despite it increasing the risk of maternal mortality and morbidity, says a WHO report.

A global survey on maternal and perinatal health by WHO witnessed 27 per cent rise in Caesarean deliveries in nine Asian countries, including India, China, Japan, Nepal and Sri Lanka, in 2007-08.

Though in India only 18 per cent births are Caesarean as compared to China’s 46 per cent which topped the list, what is worrying is that such cases have risen from five per cent to almost 65 per cent in many private hospitals in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, the report said.

After analysing 107,950 births of which 24,000 were from Indian states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, the WHO found that C-section births have increased beyond the recommended level of 15 per cent in these countries, not “because of an immediate medical need for it but due to financial gains”.

The WHO health experts insisted that “mothers should only get a C-section when there is a need for it as it increases risk of maternal death, infant death, admission into an intensive care unit, blood transfusion and hysterectomy as compared to spontaneous vaginal delivery.

“But these risks have not necessarily been absorbed into medical culture because in two thirds of the hospitals which took part in the survey, the institution had carried out Caesarean to earn more money as it costs more that the normal delivery, for example in India it is nearly Rs 20,000 costlier.”

Anti-Sikh riots one of the most tragic events: Pranab

News4u-News Desk-Government on Wednesday described the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as “one of the most tragic events” and said the whole country felt “ashamed”, as it faced renewed Opposition demands to immediately bring to book culprits behind the attacks.

“Everyone of us feels ashamed that this happened. …We cannot get back the lives we lost, we cannot remove the agony… We can take a vow and draw a lesson that in future this does not happen,” Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee said in the Lok Sabha.

Mukherjee voiced these sentiments  while responding to Harsimrat Kaur of SAD who raised the issue spiritedly during the Zero Hour lamenting that 25 years after the ghastly incidents no one has been punished.

Kaur further said that no minority community in the country should live in fear.

Kaur was supported by the entire opposition, led by Leader of Opposition L K Advani.

Following this Mukherjee assured them that he would speak to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other colleagues and see “what best can be done under the given situation”.

Kaur regretted that despite the Nanavati Commission recommending registration of cases against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others in 2005, no case was registered.

“CBI has still not filed a single chargesheet”.

Amid cries of ’shame, shame’ from opposition benches, Kaur said so many commissions and committees have been appointed but no guilty has been brought to book so far.

Advani called upon Mukerjee to set up a committee and not what he said was ‘another commission’ to look into the matter of 1984 riots.

He even suggested that parliamentary committee to go into the issue for quick action, “leaving aside all old issues”.

Pak charge of India funding Taliban most ridiculous: Krishna

News4u-News Desk- India has dubbed as “most ridiculous” and irrational the allegation by Pakistan that it was funding Taliban.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said India considers Taliban as a dreaded terror outfit, and wants Pakistan to take action against it along with other groups like Laskar-e-Toiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD).

“This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard,” he told reporters in Bangalore on Wednesday when asked about his reaction to the allegation by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik that India is funding Taliban.

To a question he said, “When such irrational statements are made we take up (with Pakistan) through diplomatic channels.”

The Minister said India has asked Pakistan to act against terror groups like Laskar-e-Toiba and JuD which change names but “breed terror”.

Referring to Mumbai attack, he said the six people arrested inPakistan as well as the lone terrorist Ajmal Kasab held here, had admitted that they were Pakistani nationals and hatched the conspiracy from that country.

India rejects Pak charge of funding Taliban

India has rubbished as “absurd” and “totally baseless”Pakistan’s allegations that it was supporting and sponsoring Taliban along the border with Afghanistan and said it was the greatest threat to world peace.

“It is absurd and totally baseless. India cannot support Taliban, which is the greatest threat to world peace,” Defence Minister A K Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a defence function at New Delhi on Tuesday.

He was asked about Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s allegation in this regard.

Malik had on Monday claimed that India was fomenting unrest within Pakistan through steps such as funding Taliban fighters based along the border with Afghanistan.

In an interview to a TV news channel, Malik said he was “convinced” India is among “certain hostile agencies” that are backing the Taliban to create instability in Pakistan.

In Bangalore, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had on Monday rejected the charges, saying, “We want Taliban and Talibanism to be totally eliminated”.

Home Ministry advises Indian pilgrims against travel to Pak

The Home Ministry asked “all Indian citizens to avoid undertaking any visit to Pakistan for this purpose, till the security situation in Pakistan improves.”

‘Jail’, most difficult role of my career: Neil

News4u-Entertainment Desk- Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh was hesitant initially when director Madhur Bhandarkar asked him to do a full monty for a scene in the upcoming flick ‘Jail’, which he says is the toughest film of his career.
“I was first hesitant because I knew that millions of viewers would be watching it. I did it because I have the highest regard for Madhur, who was very confident with the script and convinced me to go ahead with the scene,” says Mukesh.
The actor was in the capital recently for the film’s promotion along with director Madhur Bhandarkar and co-actor Manoj Bajpai.
Neil Nitin says he was initially apprehensive about doing the scene because he thought it might cause embarrassment to his parents. “It is the role my parents would be proud of,” he says.
“The film follows a strict chronological order from first to the last scene to enable the audience to understand the emotional quotient of the character. I had to go through a method acting approach and lived almost like an inmate to feel the kind of psychological changes that a prisoner undergoes inside the four walls of a jail,” says the 26-year-old actor.
For the grandson of the legendary singer Mukesh, “This is the most difficult role” of his career.
The film ‘Jail’ revolves around Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh), who has everything in life – a good job, a pretty girlfriend and a beautiful house.
Parag’s world turns upside-down when he finds himself inside the four walls of a prison due to a series of unfortunate events around him. The film, which also stars Manoj Bajpai and Mugdha Godse, is set for release on November 6.
While adding that the USP of the film is its director, he says, “I was always keen to know what actually happens inside jail. Only through this film I came to know that the world of jail is totally different from what we perceive.”
Neil made his debut in films with the 2007 crime thriller ‘Johnny Gaddaar’ in which he was cast in a negative role. Though the movie did not do well at the box-office, his acting was appreciated. Again, he got rave reviews for his role in ‘New York’, a film on terrorism.
“You feel like a caged bird. Jail is actually a place where criminals are sent to improve and come up as better citizens. However, while shooting for jail, I learnt that sometimes when a person tries to improve upon, he is set back by the environment of the jail and hence, what was meant to be imprisonment for betterment becomes a bad nightmare,” says the actor.
Neil also had to lose weight to fit into the role. “The director asked me to lose the extra kilos to not look like a rich brat but a simple, common man of the street. I really had a hard time doing this film,” he says.
Neil’s upcoming projects include films with Pradeep Sarkar and Abbas-Mustan while his ‘Tera Kya Hoga Johnny’ is also in the pipeline.
